Project Works
In the E2PACKMAN project all partners work on a topic which is clearly beyond the State of the Art. This counts for all WP topics from Design/Modelling and Simulation to the final use case demonstration. In addition, all 10 package platforms and investigated technologies of E2PACKMAN are beyond state of the art or even new platforms will be pushed. They correspond to the three application domains Computing and Communication, Sensors and Power. The figure below gives an overview of the 10 defined European package platforms and their main innovations.
To tackle the 10 platforms 21 use cases were defined at project start but further use cases still could be added depending on R&D development.
In E2PACKMAN the device category Computing and Communication includes 3 platforms and 7 use cases, the device category MEMS and Sensors includes 3 platforms and 5 use cases, and the device category Power includes 4 platforms with 9 use cases.
For each of the 21 use cases leading partners were defined. Furthermore, to demonstrate the work along the entire value chain, which is an important element of E2PACKMAN, the contribution of use cases is described focusing on the innovation corresponding to 5 technical objectives.
- M - miniaturization
- C - co-design
- P - process improvement & automation
- R - reliability
- G - green materials & manufacturing
Several use cases are already quite advanced, whereas others still must be further specified. Each use case has impact for Europe (SRIA, scientific, environmental). The first project months demonstrated that new project partners of a use case can bring in their knowledge, competences and experiences to a use case/platform and thus generate an additional benefit.
